Use this appliance only with the supplied battery or the

The DVD player uses a NI-MH

INTRODUCTION
Read this manual before using your player.
DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-DA, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, Picture CD,
The Player is set to play Region 2 discs.
DVD discs with other region codes.
Improperly formatted CD-Rs or CD-RWs. This may include discs
which are not finalised.
The player has built in copyright protection technology. If a video
recorder is connected to the player, the video output image may be
distorted during recording.

If any items are missing or damaged, contact your nearest TESCO
store for a replacement. Have your receipt ready when you call.
Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it, do so having regard to any
recycling regulations in your area.
Before using the player open it and carefully remove any protective
film covering the screen. Take care not to press on the screen while
doing this.

Before investigating a problem, always switch off the
player and any connected units.
TROUBLESHOOTING
No power
• Check if the power adapter plug is connected securely.
No picture/sound
• Are the screens properly connected and switched on?
• Is the volume control turned up?
•Is the screen blanking switch depressed? Refer to the diagram on
Page 4 to locate this switch.
Interference or
scrolling
• Due to the effect of copy protection. Avoid connecting to a VCR
or TV/VCR combination.
Black & White picture
• Adjust the vertical hold on your TV (if connected)
Disc will not play
Disc skips
• The DVD+-RW you played should be finalized.
• ensure the disc is the right way up and correctly inserted.
• Make sure the disc is free from scratches & fingerprints.
• Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type and system).
• Is the disc Region 2?
• Clean the disc.
• Cancel or change the parental lock level.

Remove the disc from the tray
Close the player lid securely
Unplug the adapter and coil the cables
If you are using the battery, disconnect and store it securely.
Store the player and accessories in the securely, away from sources of
heat and damp and out of the reach of children and pets.
NEVER store the player with the lid open!
Occasionally wipe the player with a lint free duster.. Never clean the
player with liquids or solvents.
Do NOT clean the inside of the player tray with a cloth. Lightly blow out
any dust. If your discs skip or don’t play properly, this is more likely to
be caused by damage or dirt on the disc rather than any fault of the
unit.
Clean the screen from time to time with a approved anti-static cleaner.
NEVER wipe the screen with a tissue. Use a calotherm cloth available
from opticians.

PLAYING A JPG DISC
A JPG disc may contain just pictures or may have one or more folders with
individual pictures within the folders. You can use the menu screen to
select your desired folders and pictures

DVD REGION CODES
DVD discs and players are covered by a worldwide
agreement which limits playback of DVD discs to
specific regions as determined by the software
manufacturer. Most DVDs come marked with a region
coding. A disc specified as playable in one region may
not play on a player designed for a different region. A
disc specified as universal or with no region coding
(Code 0)may be played in any region.

TV CONNECTION
You will need to purchase an interconnect with a three pole jack on one end
and three RCA phono plugs on the other. This interconnect is readily
available in accessory stores and is often used for connecting Camcorders and
games consoles.
Connect the jack plug to the Player AV OUT socket Connect the YELLOW plug
to the Composite Video input of the TV. Connect the WHITE and RED plugs to
the Audio inputs of the TV.
You can now view the DVD player on the TV.

- ALWAYS ENSURE ALL EQUIPMENT IS SWITCHED OFF BEFORE MAKING OR CHANGING CONNECTIONS!
AUDIO ONLY CONNECTIONS
Purchase a stereo Jack - 2 RCA phono plug interconnect.
Connect the jack plug to the Player AV OUT socket
Connect the White plug to the LEFT socket and the Red plug to the Right
Audio socket. You will need a spare LINE (AUX) input on your stereo.
You will still need to connect a TV monitor via the composite video
connection!

HEADPHONES
You can connect two sets of headphones to the DVD player. The player volume
control controls the output to both sets of headphones so if you want to use
two sets of headphones at different levels we recommend headphones with
built-in volume controls.
Plug your headphones into
Socket 1 to disconnect the player's speakers. Plug your headphones into
Socket 2 to leave the player's speakers operational.

ATTACHING AND REMOVING THE BATTERY

Disconnect the player from the power supply. Switch the POWER ON/OFF
switch on the player to
The battery attaches to the rear of the player. Line up the centre section of
the battery with the groove in the base in the player and press gently until
the battery locks in place. To release, press the button the side of the
battery and then remove it.
It takes about 5 hours to charge the battery. A fully charged battery can
power the unit for about 2.5 hours.
Plug one end of the AC power adapter into the DC jack on the side of the
player, then plug the other end into the AC power outlet. Make sure the
player is in “Power Off” mode. Once fully charged, the indicator LED will
turn off. At this point you may remove the wall plug.
You cannot operate the player via the battery when charging is taking
place. If you switch the player on with the AC adaptor plugged in, the
battery is immediately disconnected and the charging light will go out.

Recharge the battery when fully spent in order to maximize its life.
Never recharge a battery which is fully or almost fully charged.
You can connect the player to a suitable 9V DC power supply.
A suitable AC/DC power adaptor is provided with the player. Alternatively,
you can purchase from a motor accessory store a standard 12V vehicle
power supply.
Ensure the polarity of the power jack matches the drawing.

HANDSET OPERATION
The handset replicates most basic
player controls. Additionally there
are some functions that can only be
carried out from the handset.
The remote handset has a range of
3 metres. Ensure there is a clear
line of sight between the handset
and the display window located at
the front left of the player. The
operating angle should not be
greater than 30º of horizontal.
The battery compartment is a slide
out tray located at the bottom rear
of the handset.
Remove the film strip on first use.
To replace the battery: slide out the
tray. Unwrap a new CR2025
battery, and place it in the tray,

you use only the correct type.

Although the player’s Setup menu contains the system setups of Angle,

CHANGING THE CAMERA ANGLE
The player allows you to select a preferred language, TV and audio format
from those included on the DVD video disc.
Press AUDIO repeatedly.
The choices will cycle as follows
First the Audio Formats
Then the Languages
After you have entered the
selection, the program will play
with the new settings.
The player will support Stereo and Dolby 5.1 formats
The player and the analogue outputs will only supportt 2 channel stereo
encoding. (The analogue outputs will also support matrixed encodings)
The digital outputs
play Dolby 5.1 encoded discs. If you choose an
Audio format not supported by the player, there will be no sound output. In
this case, change to a supported format to restore the sound.

Connect the supplied power adapter to the player. Plug the mains plug into
the mains outlet and switch on the power. (If you are using the battery,
connect the battery to the player.)

Hold the player with one hand. Hold the tab at the front of the player lid
with the other hand and open the lid. The maximum angle you can
open the player is 135º. Do not try to open it any further.
Push the catch at the front of
the player to open the disc lid.
Load a disc into the tray, label side up.
Align the centre of the disc with the centre of the disc guide. Press
gently on the disc to snap it into place. Close the disc cover.

where there is one title and nothing else the disc may play.

When you have finished always remove the disc from the player
before switching off. If you are operating the player using the mains
adaptor, unplug the adaptor from the player and the mains.
Use the Volume Control at the side of the player.

CHECKING THE OPERATIONAL STATUS
An On Screen Display (OSD) disc status indicator will be displayed at the
top of the TV screen when certain functions are executed, or when the
button on the handset is pressed. When different discs are
loaded the indicators may change.
Load a DVD disc.
To display the
menu:

The root menu displays the hierarchical structure of the DVD disc. If a disc
is playing it will stop.

All the user choices available on the disc are driven from this menu. The
title menu may contain one or several titles.
