USING THE REMOTE CONTROL

To use the remote control, slide open the battery compartment cover on the
reverse of the remote control.

ii.

Insert 1 x AA 1.5V battery (supplied) in accordance with the diagram in the
battery compartment. Take care to observe the correct polarity (+/-) marked
in the battery compartment and refit the cover.

iii.

Do not expose the battery or the installed batteries to excessive heat (e.g.
fire, sunshine or position close to radiators etc.).

iv.

To  use  the  remote  control,  ensure  that  the  main  unit  is  plugged  in  and
switched on at the rear of the main unit.  Point the infrared transmitter on the
remote control towards the remote control sensor on the main unit and select
the function button of choice.  Point remote control unit no more than 6m from
the remote sensor and at an angle of no greater than 30°.

BATTERY SAFETY AND DISPOSAL:

•

CAUTION – Danger of explosion if batteries are incorrectly fitted / replaced.

•

Only use ‘AA’ 1.5V batteries in this appliance.

•

Be sure to insert correctly taking care to observe the correct polarity (+ and -).

•

Use only battery of the same or equivalent type as recommended.

•

Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.

•

Remove rechargeable battery from appliance before recharging.

•

Never try to dismantle batteries.

•

Do not short-circuit the supply terminals.

•

Always remove exhausted or dead batteries from the product.

•

Remove battery from the product before extended storage.

•

Dispose of used battery responsibly at local authority household waste recycling facility.

•

DO NOT dispose of battery in a fire as the battery may explode.

6. SETTING THE CLOCK

The  clock  in  this  hifi  is  equipped  to  receive  a  DAB  radio  frequency  time  signal.    After  the  unit  has  been
turned on, it will automatically tune into a DAB radio station (see below) and update the clock.  It may be
necessary to wait for 1-2 minutes to allow the unit to receive the time signal

Plug in, switch on the appliance at the mains and at the switch on the rear of the unit, the red standby
indicator will illuminate and the display will show. “00:00 and scan time”

vi.

If a DAB signal can received in the area of operation after a short time the clock will automatically synchronise
to the local time and then the hi-fi will enter standby mode.

vii.

If the area will only receive an FM signal it will be necessary to manually set the clock, to manually set the
clock

viii.

In standby mode, press the CLOCK button on the remote, the hour digits will flash in the display, press the
SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to set the correct hour, then press the CLOCK button again to

confirm.

ix.

The minute digits will now flash, use the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to set the correct minute.

When the display shows the correct time, press the CLOCK button again to accept and exit the set mode.
The display will return to standby mode

and the clock will not be visible

Note: Each of the above steps need to be completed within 10 seconds of pressing the button, otherwise the

screen will clear.

BASIC OPERATION - GETTING STARTED

The operations of the hi-fi may be selected either by using the buttons on the remote control or in some cases
by using buttons on the front of the main unit. For clarity the instructions from this point forward will refer only
to the controls on the remote control.

Plug in, switch on the appliance at the mains

iii.

Press the STANDBY / ON ( ) button once to turn the unit on and the unit will automatically enter the DAB
radio mode.

iv.

The first time the radio is connected to the supply the backlight will illuminate, a welcome message will appear
in the display, DAB mode will automatically be selected and the radio will perform a scan.

When the scan is finished the radio will play the first alphanumerically found station.

vi.

To search the stations that have been found, press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons until the station

of choice is located

vii.

Move the antenna (and hi-fi if necessary) until the best reception is received.

viii.

Adjust the volume to the desired level using the VOLUME (+ or – ) buttons. The sound can be silenced by
pressing the MUTE button and ‘MUTE’ will appear in the display. Press the MUTE button a second time to
restore the sound.

ix.

To switch to FM radio or the other modes, press the TUNER/DAB, CD, USB and Audio in.

press the MODE

button repeatedly until the desired operation mode is shown in the display.

To place the main unit into standby mode, press the STANDBY / ON ( ) button. The display will dim but the
clock will remain visible

xi.

To turn the hi-fi off for longer periods, switch off at the mains supply

If there is no signal for approximately 15 minutes when the unit is in CD or USB mode the unit will
automatically switch into standby mode.

•

The unit will automatically switch off after 4 hours when in Audio in mode. 10 minutes before switch off.
AUTO OFF’ will start to flash in the display. To reset the 4 hour timer, press the INTRO button.

•

In standby mode press any button and the display will activate for 10 seconds and show the time.

USING THE RADIO - DAB MODE

DAB differs from analogue radio, the separate signals from a number of stations are grouped together and
transmitted as a single frequency. These groups are referred to as multiplexes or ensembles. Each time a
group has been found the name of the group will be shown on the lower half of the display.

8.1

DAB MODE - AUTOTUNE

This function allows the radio to search automatically for DAB Band III channels.

When you

press STANDBY / ON ( ) button carry out a scan for DAB stations and display a progressing

slide bar.

ii.

When the scan is finished, all stations will be stored and the radio will play the first alphanumerically found
station.

iii.

To search the stations that have been found, press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) button to search

up or down the frequency.

8.2

DAB MODE – MANUAL TUNE
This function allows a specific or new ensemble to be manually added to the stations already available on
the radio.

Press the DAB MENU button and use the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to move through the

menu options available until ‘Manual tune’ is shown in the display. Press the

ENTER or SELECT button

enter the manual tune and the display will now show ‘<5A 174.928MHz>’.

ii.

Press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to move thorough the DAB channels, the display will

show ‘5A to 13F’ and their associated frequencies.

iii.

When the desired station group is displayed. Press the

ENTER or SELECT button

. If the group is available

to add, the name of the station group will scroll after a few seconds. Press the

ENTER or SELECT button

again to add the group and exit the manual tuning mode. The radio will return to the station being listened
to but the new group of stations will have been added.

8.3

DAB MODE – SECONDARY SERVICES

Some stations include secondary services and when these are available a ‘>’ symbol appears after the
station name. To access this service press the

ENTER or SELECT button

8.4

DAB DISPLAY MODES AND SET UP OPTIONs

8.4.1

DAB DISPLAY MODES

This function allows information relating to the current station to be shown in the second line of the display.

Press the DAB DISPLAY button repeatedly to scroll through the following display modes

•

Ensemble / Multiplex (Group name) - The ensemble / multiplex is a group of stations that are bundled and
transmitted together in a single frequency. There are national and local multiplexes; local ones contain
stations that are specific to the local area.

•

Time and date - The time and date will be automatically updated by the radio time signal. In the unlikely
event that no clock information is received, the display will show “<Time/Date>”.

•

DLS (dynamic label segment) - The broadcaster may include a scrolling message about the current
programme.

•

Signal strength – the display will show a slide bar to indicate the signal strength. The stronger the signal,
the longer the bar.

•

Programme type – this describes the style of the programme. If the information is not available the display
will show ‘Programme Type>’.

•

Audio bit rate – the display will show the digital audio bit rate being received.

•

Frequency – The display will show the frequency of the station being broadcast.

8.4.2

DAB SET UP OPTIONS

This function allows the DAB set up menu to be entered and a number of options to be changed.

Press the DAB MENU button to enter the set up menu.

Press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to move through the menu options available and press

the

ENTER or SELECT button

to enter each option.

•

Full Scan – Initiates an automatic DAB scan.

•

Manual tune – Permits specific station groups to be manually added – see section 8.2.

•

DRC – Permits the dynamic range compression to be modified.

•

Prune – allows stations that have no signal to be deleted from the station list.

•

Language-allows display language to be set

(German, French, Italian and English)

•

SW version – allows displays the software version.

8.5

DAB MODE - RESET
If moving the radio to another location in the country the pre-tuned and stored DAB stations may no longer
be available and it will be necessary to reset the radio back to the factory settings.

8.5.1

When in DAB mode, open the CD tray

MENU/STOP (

on the hi-fi until the display shows ‘Restarting….. FACTORY

RESET’, The CD tray will close and the unit will start the reset and perform an auto scan. All stored
programmed stations will be lost during reset.

USING THE RADIO - FM MODE

9.1

FM MODE - TUNING

Turn the radio on, press the TUNER/DAB button and select the FM mode. The display will show ‘FM’, the
radio will automatically tune to the nearest station and then the display will show the station name (or
frequency if RDS not available).

ii.

To activate auto tune, press the RADIO DATA SCAN button. The unit will start scanning UP the frequency
and stop automatically once the station has been found. To scan downwards, press and hold the RADIO
DATA SCAN button

iii.

To search manually, briefly press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to increment the frequency by

0.05MHz.

iv.

To change the audio mode (stereo and mono) press the MONO/ST button to switch between stereo and
mono when stereo is available.

If an FM RDS(Radio Data Signal ) is present, the display automatically show the station name and radio text
(where available)

9.2

FM DISPLAY MODES AND SET UP OPTIONS

This function allows information relating to the current station to be shown in the second line of the

display.

Press the RADIO DATA DISPLAY button repeatedly to scroll through the following display modes

•

Frequency – The display will show the frequency of the station being broadcast.

•

Audio mode – The display will show if the station being listened is being broadcast in stereo or mono

•

Time and date - The time and date will be automatically updated by the radio time signal.

•

Radio text -

The broadcaster may include a scrolling message about the current programme.

•

Station name – The display will show the name of the station being broadcast.

•

Program type – This describes the style of the programme. If the information is not available the display will

show ‘PS None’.

10.

USING THE RADIO - PROGRAMMED STATION FUNCTION

This function allows up to 30 stations to be programmed into the memory and stored in both DAB and FM

modes.

Follow the directions above to select a radio station.

Press and hold the

PRESET

button until the display shows ‘#: (Empty).’

iii.

Press the PRESET up or down(

) or (

) buttons to select the preset storage location and then press the

ENTER button. The station now broadcasting has now been stored in the selected location and the display will
show the preset location and ‘Preset # stored’.

iv.

Repeat the above steps to store further stations.

To store further stations, press and hold the

PRESET

button, and then press the PRESET up or down(

) or

(

) buttons until an empty storage location is found. Press the ENTER button to store the station.

vi.

To listen to the preset stations, press the

PRESET

button once and press PRESET up or down(

) or (

)

buttons to scroll up or down the stored station. The preset location and station name will be displayed in the
lower half of the display. If the present has not been allocated ‘

Preset empty

’ will be shown in the display.

Notes

•

Storing a new station into a preset location will erase the previously stored station in that location.

•

Each of the above steps need to be completed within 5 seconds of pressing the button, otherwise the
screen will clear.

12.

USING THE CD PLAYER

The  appliance  is  suitable  to  play  compact  discs  bearing  the  identification  mark  shown.
Whilst it can also read and play CD-R, CD-RW, 8cm and multi section discs, the playability
maybe  affected  by  the  type  of  software  used  to  create  the  discs  and  the  quality  and
condition of the blank media.  This is not an indication of a problem with the hifi and if the
disc is missing or unrecognised the display will show ‘No disc’.

12.1

Turn the hi-fi on and press the CD button to select the CD mode. The display will show ‘CD’

Press the CD tray OPEN/CLOSE button, the display will show ‘Open’.

12.3

Insert a disc(label side up) into the CD compartment and press the CD tray OPEN/CLOSE button to close
CD tray. The display will show ‘CD-Reading’ followed by the total number of tracks (e.g. T15) for that disc
and the play time after about 5 seconds.

12.4

If the disc is upside down or damaged the display will still show ‘Error’ or ‘No disc’ respectively.

12.5

To start the music, press the

INFO/( ) button

. After a few seconds the music will start to play and the

display will show the current track and the elapsed time .

12.6

To pause the music, press the

INFO/( ) button

and the elapsed time will flash in the display to show that

CD is in ‘pause’ mode. To resume play, press the

INFO/( ) button

again.

12.7

To move the CD forward to the next track, press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH forward (

) button. Repeat the

action to move the CD to each successive track. The display will show the track selected and this function
works in play, pause and stop modes.

12.8

To return to the beginning of the track, press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH backwards (

) button once. Press

the button a second time to move the CD back to the previous track. Repeat the action to move the CD
back to each previous track. The display will show the track selected and this function works in play, pause
and stop modes.

12.9

To search forward or backwards for a particular point in a track, press and

hold

either SKIP / TUNE

SEARCH
(

) buttons to move in the desired direction during play. Release the button when the desired point in

the track is reached.

12.10 To stop playing the disc, press the

MENU/STOP (

) button

and the display will show the total number of

tracks for that disc and the play time.

12.11

To turn off the main unit at any time press the STANDBY / ON ( ) button.

The display

will dim but the clock

will be visible

Note: The maximum number of readable folders is 99 and tracks 511.

13.

CARING FOR DISCS

To obtain the best sound from compact discs treat with care. Dirty,
scratched or warped discs will cause broken or intermittent sound.

•

Store discs in their original cases and avoid using in dusty environments

•

When holding the disc, take care not to touch the playing surface.

•

Do not place the discs in warm or sunny locations

•

Never write on the playing surface of the disc or on the label surface with a ballpoint pen.

•

Do not stick labels onto discs.

•

Wipe any dust or fingerprints form the disc
using a soft cloth. Wipe from the centre of
the disc to the outside and never in a
circular motion. Do not use conventional
record cleaners, anti static agents,
benzene, thinners or solvents.

14.

USING THE USB PORT

The appliance is suitable to play MP3 and WMA files stored on USB devices (version 1.1 and 2.0) with a
maximum of 32GB memory.

14.1

Turn the hi-fi i Plug on and press the USB
button to select the USB mode. The display
will show ‘USB’,

14.2

Insert the USB device into the port.

14.7

The display will initially show ‘USB-READING’ and then the display will show ‘MP3’ or ‘WMA’, the total
number of folders and tracks on the storage device.

14.8 To start play, press the

INFO/( ) button

, the folder, track number and elapsed time will show in the display.

14.9

To pause play, press the

INFO/( ) button

, the music will pause and the elapsed time will flash in the

display to show that pause mode has been selected. To resume play, press the button again.

14.10 To select another track in the same folder, press the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons until the

folder of choice is shown in the display.

14.10 To select a track in another folder, press the FOLDER up or down(+or-) buttons until the folder of choice is

shown in the display. Then use the SKIP / TUNE SEARCH (

) buttons to select the track.

14.10 To search forward or forwards for a particular point in a track, press and hold either press the SKIP / TUNE

SEARCH (

) buttons to move in the desired direction during play. Release the button when the

desired point in the track is reached.

14.10 To stop the playing the device, press the

MENU/ STOP (

) button

and the display will show the total

number of folders and tracks for that device.

Notes:

•

NEVER remove the USB device during play mode. Removing the device whilst playing may cause music
files to corrupt and become unplayable.

•

Folders and tracks on USB devices will be numbered (1-999) according to the date that the folder was
created. The maximum number of readable folders is 99 and tracks 999.

15.

REPEAT PLAY FUNCTION (CD and USB modes only)

This function allows the same track or all tracks to be played repeatedly.

15.1

To repeat the SAME track, press the REPEAT button ONCE during play,
pause or stop modes. ‘Rep one’ will illuminate in the display (fig. ) and the
track playing will play continuously.

15.2

To repeat ALL tracks, press the REPEAT button until ‘Rep all’ is shown in
the display (fig. ) and all tracks will replay continuously.

15.3

If playing a MP3 or WMA files, press the REPEAT button a third time,
‘REPEAT-ALBUM’ will be shown in the display (fig. ) and all tracks in the
current folder repeatedly.

15.4

To stop the repeat function, press the REPEAT button until the repeat
indicator disappears from the display.

16.

RANDOM PLAY FUNCTION (CD and USB modes only)

This function allows the unit to randomly play tracks from a CD device.

16.1

Press the RANDOM button during play, pause or stop modes and the next
track will be randomly selected; ‘Random’ will be shown in the display
(fig. ) and the next track will be randomly selected from the device.

16.2

To deselect the random function press the RANDOM button again and
random will extinguish to show that this function has been deselected.

17.

INTRO FUNCTION (CD and USB modes only)

This function allows the unit to search the CD or USB for a specific track
by listening to the first 10 seconds of the track.

17.1

Press the INTRO button during play, pause or stop modes and ‘Intro’ will
appear in the display (fig. ) and the first 10 seconds of each track will play.

17.2

When the track has been found, press the INTRO button again to listen to
the whole track. Intro will not be shown in the display when this function
has been deselected.

18.

PROGRAMMED (MEMORY) PLAY FUNCTION (CD and USB modes only)

This function allows up to 32 CD tracks or 64 MP3 / WMA files into be programmed into the memory and be
played in a specific order.

18.1

During stop mode,

press the

PRESET

button, the program location

Repeat above steps until all the desired tracks have been stored. Please

album / track being played and pause, stop and repeat functions operate as normal.

When all the tracks have finished playing, the programmed play will stop. Play can be restarted using the

USING THE EQUALISER FUNCTION

This button allows the user to change the tones of the music being listened to. Press the EQ button on the
remote control repeatedly to scroll through the preset tones in the sequence below (fig. 17). Select the
tone for the style of music being listened to (e.g. flat, classical, rock, pop or jazz).

PLAYING AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT

Auxiliary analogue audio equipment can be connected and amplified via the hi-fi.

21.1

Turn the unit on and press the AUDIO IN button to select the AUX mode. The display will show ‘AUX’.

21.2

Connect the auxiliary equipment using a RCA jack cable (not supplied) into the AUDIO IN jack at the front
of hi-fi.

21.3

Press the

PLAY/PAUSE button

on the auxiliary equipment and adjust the volume to the desired level using

the VOLUME (+ or –) buttons.

SETTING AND USING THE SLEEP FUNCTION

This function will switch off the hi-fi automatically after a preset time interval.

21.1

With the music of choice playing, press the SLEEP button repeatedly to scroll through the preset times in
the sequence below (fig. 19). When the button is released the sleep timer is now activated and the display
will show periodically show the time period selected (e.g. sleep remaining 90 = 90 minutes).

The sleep interval remaining will be briefly be displayed at approximately 30 second intervals, To check the
sleep interval remaining at any time, press the SLEEP button and the display will briefly show he time
remaining before the hi-fi switches off.

To cancel the sleep timer, press the SLEEP button until the sleep setting shows ‘SLEEP OFF’ in the
display and normal play is resumed.

SETTING AND USING THE TIMER

This function will switch the hi-fi on and off at a preset time and can be used as an alarm.

15.1

To set the time that the timer will activate, during standby mode, press and

hold

the TIMER button until

‘On

appears in the display and the hour digits flash in the display.

To set the time, press the SKIP / TUNE / SEARCH (

) buttons to select the hour that the timer is to

activate and press the TIMER button to confirm.

The minute digits will now flash in the display, press the SKIP / TUNE / SEARCH (

to select the correct minute and press the TIMER button to confirm.

Once the activation time has been set, the display will show

’ and the hour digits will flash.

) buttons to select the hour that the timer is to switch off and

To select the timer mode (DAB, FM, CD or USB), press the SKIP / TUNE / SEARCH (

The timer volume is then displayed, adjust the volume up or down to the desired level using the SKIP /
TUNE / SEARCH (

) buttons and press the TIMER button to accept and exit set up mode.

The timer activation interval is now set.

To activated the timer, press the TIMER button, ‘Timer On’ and then the timer indicator ‘ ’ will be
displayed.

15.11 When the time on the clock is the same as the time set on the timer, the appliance will turn on and start to

play and the volume gradually increase to the set level.

15.12 The timer will activate the hi-fi each day at the same time until the timer function is switched off. To switch

off the timer function, press the TIMER button once and the timer indicator ‘ ’ will extinguish in the display.

15.13

To re-activate the timer in the future, press the TIMER button once, ‘ ’ will be displayed to show that the
timer is now switched on.

Each of the above steps need to be completed within 10 seconds of pressing the button, otherwise the
screen will clear.

•

If the display shows "ERROR" during set up then it indicates that ‘on’ time and ‘off’ time are the same.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Wipe external surfaces with a soft cloth.  If the cabinet is very dirty, unplug from the mains supply and use
a damp cloth soaked in a weak solution of washing up liquid and water.  Allow it to dry thoroughly before
reusing.
