Oil to use

• Fill the bowl with oil.
• Use an oil recommended for deep

frying.
For best results we recommend blended
vegetable oil. For sunflower oil,
groundnut, oil, or soya oil, ensure the
oil is changed after every 5 uses.

• If you use solid vegetable fat :

- cut it into pieces and melt it in the
bowl at 150°C,
- never melt solid fat in the basket.

• Follow the manufacturer’s cooking

recommendations.

• You have the possibility of frying your

food with 0.2 litres of fat/oil to 1 litre of
fat/oil depending on type of food (see
cooking tables p. 20).

• Lard or dripping should not be used

under any circumstances and may
cause overflowing, smoking or risk of
fire. For traditional UK style deep fried
foods, especially chips, we do not
recommend using olive oil.

Do not mix
different types of
fat/oil.

Adjust the oil level
depending on type
of food. Do not
exceed the
quantity
corresponding to
the marks 1 l

.

Never use
less than 0.2 l.

Do not use the
basket if you use
less than 0.5 l.

Preheating

• Close the lid.
• Insert the connector into the back of the

electrical base.

• Plug in the fryer.

• Set the thermostat according to the

food you are frying (see cooking tables
p. 20)

• The fryer heats up and the temperature

light comes on.

Never plug in the
deep fryer without
oil/fat inside.

Before plugging
the fryer into the
mains, insert the
connector into the
back of the
electrical base.
Do not leave the
deep fryer
unattended. Do

Preparation for use

Preparing food for frying

• Remove excess moisture (water and

ice) from the food.

• No matter what the recipe, food must

be perfectly dry : this will prevent
overflowing and extend the life of the
oil. When dishes include raw potatoes
(chips, crisps and potato straws), wash
them in cold water to get rid of the
starch. This will stop them from
sticking together. Dry them carefully
and thoroughly with paper kitchen
towel. Before cooking, remove any ice
crystals on the food by shaking the
basket of food to be fried over the sink.

• Fill the basket.
• Reduce food quantity for frozen food.

Lowering the basket

• When the oil has reached the right

temperature, the light goes out.

• Open the lid and place the basket in the

high position.

• Close the lid.
• Slowly lower the basket.

The timer does not
switch off the
fryer.

Remove excess ice
from frozen food
before frying by
shaking the basket
of food to be fried
over the sink.

Set the cooking time

(depending on model)

• Press on the timer button to set the time

minute by minute.

• Release. The selected time (in minutes)

is displayed and the countdown starts.

• In case of a mistake or to delete the

selected time, hold the button down for
2 seconds.

• To stop the timer ringing signal, press

on the button.

Keep out of reach
of children.

Cut food to the same
size so that it cooks
evenly. Avoid using
pieces that are too
thick.

While cooking

• During cooking, it is normal for the

temperature light to go on and off.

For a second frying

• Correct the level of oil if necessary, with

the same type of oil.

• Wait until the temperature light goes out

before lowering the second batch of
food.

Taking food out

• Raise the basket resting it on the high

position.

• Open the lid by pushing on the opening

button to let steam out.

• Raise the lid using the lid handle.

• Take out the basket
• Close the lid.
• Serve.

Cooking

Warning : do not
place your hand
above the filter.
The steam is very
hot
Do not remove the
lid during cooking.

Do not mix
different types of
oil.

Stopping the appliance

• Once frying is completed, place the

thermostat/control button on to the
position O/I.

• Unplug the appliance.
• To move the fryer, use the carrying

handles.

• For filtering and draining the fat, see the

chapter on Maintenance.

Never move the
fryer with hot oil
or fat inside.

Cooking

Cooking times

The cooking times and the quantities of oil are only a
guide, they may vary depending on quantities, size of
pieces and personal taste.

5 - 6 min

Cooks tips: When cooking battered food and doughnuts, remove the wire basket to prevent food
sticking to it. Take great care when handling the food and use tongs. Gradually place the food
into the hot oil, submerging it an inch at a time to prevent it from sinking straight away.

We recommend you to:
- limit the quantity and the temperature at 170°C especially for potatoes,
- use the basket for french fries,
- control the cooking : only eat golden brown fried food not burnt food,
- filter the oil after every use to avoid burnt crumbs and change it regularly,
- have a balanced and varied diet which includes 5 portions of fruit and vegetables daily,
- store your fresh potatoes in a room above 8°C.
For good quality and fast cooking, we recommend that you limit the quantity of chips to 1/2 a basket per
fry.
For a larger quantity of food or potatoes, the temperature is dropping very fast just after having plunged
the basket . While cooking, this temperature is not above 175°C even if the thermostat is at the 190°C
(= Stabilized Temperature before plunging).

Chinese Spicy Prawns

Preparation
1

Beat the egg, stir in the ice water then beat in the
wholemeal flour. This batter is quite liquid compared to
other batters but that’s what makes it lighter. Dip the
vegetables or fish in the batter.

2

Fry them in batches at 190°C while the batter is still cold.

Idea

This will work with other types of flour. Dip in the soy
sauce flavoured with daikon radish and ginger.

Tempura

Ingredients
1 egg
400 ml iced water
250 g wholemeal flour
Vegetables: broccoli,
cauliflower, red or
green peppers, onions,

Draining the oil

For your safety, the appliance drains
automatically all kinds of fat (oil or solid
fat).

• Once frying is finished, leave the oil to

cool for approximately 2 hours.

• Remove the OIL BOX lid.

• Take the fryer off its electrical base.

• Place the fryer on the OIL BOX ensuring

it is positioned on the draining pin. The
filtration may take one hour to
complete.

Maintenance

Make sure that the
oil container is
empty before
draining the fryer.

If you use solid fat,
do not wait for it
to get solid before
putting the fryer
on the OIL BOX.

Never put your
hand under the
fryer or on the
base, they are both
still very hot.

It is important to
drain/filter the oil
after each use.
Crumbs that break
away from food
tend to burn and
alter the quality of
the oil more
rapidly. Over time
this increases the
risk of catching
fire.

Storing the container of oil

• Take the fryer off the OIL BOX after

making sure the fryer is empty.
Oil is filtered and ready to reuse.

• Replace the lid on the OIL BOX.

• Carry the container with both hands.
• Store it in a cool dry place away from

the light.

Cleaning the fryer

Clean as new after each use.
The fryer is very easy to clean.

• You can put all the parts in the

dishwasher except the electrical base
and power cord.
You can also clean them using a
sponge and washing-up liquid.

• For a more efficient odour filtration, we

recommed that you remove the anti-
odour filter from the lid and wash it.

• After cleaning, press on the red button

under the fryer to release any water in
the bowl.

• Clean the electrical base regularly with

a damp cloth. You may find some oil
drops in the centre of the electrical
base. This is normal.

• The fryer is fitted with a non-stick

coated bowl :
The browning and scratches which
may appear after long use are normal.
We guarantee that the non-stick
coating complies with regulations
concerning materials in contact with
foodstuffs.

• Take care not to bang or drop the bowl

which can distort it.

• Do not distort the connection ends

under the bowl.

• Do not try to dismantle the fixed oil

filter grid.

Maintenance

Do not put the
electrical base and
its cord in the
dishwasher or
immerse them in
the water.

Do not use
agressive or
abrasive products.

To retain the non-
stick qualities for
as long as
possible, do not
use metal utensils.

Before filling the
fryer bowl, always
check to ensure
the red button
under the fryer is
in the right
position.

Re-Using the fat/oil

Hold the container carefully
For oil:
• Take off the lid from the OIL BOX then

empty the oil in the bowl.

For solid fat:
• Remove the lid from the OIL BOX.
• Loosen the fat using a round-ended

knife.

• Cut it into pieces and melt it in the fryer

at 150°C (never melt it in the basket).

Maintenance

2

1

Changing the oil/fat

• Do not pour used oil into the sink. Leave

it to cool and throw it away with the
household waste.

• If you must add oil, make sure it is the

same type of oil/fat that is already in the
fryer.

Change the oil
after a maximum
of 10 to 12 uses.
“Clean” oil keeps
the flavour and
lightness of foods
and prevents
overflowing.

1

2

Replace the anti-odour filter

(ref XA 500010 / XA 500011)

• Remove the filter lid.
• Take the filter out.
• Change the filter.
• Replace the filter lid.

The filter is
washable, however
for improved
efficiency, change
the filter each time
the fryer has been
used a maximum
of 80 times.

Never put the OIL
BOX in the
microwave oven.

• The max (1 l) fill mark for the bowl has been

exceeded.

• Respect the oil level (1 l). Clean the fryer before any use.

• Some oil was left in the OIL BOX.

• Empty the OIL BOX before draining the oil. Clean the fryer

before any use.

Practical advice in case of difficulties

• The removable cord is not inserted in the electrical

base.

• Before plugging the fryer into the mains, insert the connector

into the back of the electrical base.

• The appliance is not plugged in or the thermostat

control button is in the off position O/I.

• Plug-in the appliance or place the thermostat control button

onto the temperature you want.

• The safety cut-out is activated.

• Place the thermostat control button in the off position then

place it onto the temperature you require .

• The fryer is not positioned properly on the

electrical base.

• Make sure there are no foreign objects between the base and

the fryer.

• The anti-odour filter is saturated.

• Change the filter (after 80 uses).

• The fat/oil has deteriorated.

• Renew the frying oil (after 10 to 12 uses max), more frequently

depending on the oil.

• The fat/oil is unsuitable.

• Use a good quality blended vegetable oil (See Page17).

• The lid is not properly closed

• Make sure that the lid is properly locked/closed.

• The max (1 l) fill mark for the bowl has been

exceeded.

• Check the oil level (1 l) and take out any surplus.

• The basket is too full or misshappen.

• Check that the basket is not too full. Change your basket.

• Mixture of different oils and /or fats.

• Empty and clean the bowl. Refill the bowl with only one type

of oil.

• Oil bubbling up too much.

• Shake off loose ice and dry foods well. Lower the basket very

gently.

• They are too thick and contain too much water.

• Experiment by lengthening the cooking time or cut foods

thinner.

• Too much food being cooked at the same time

and the cooking oil is not at the right temperature.

• Fry foods in small quantities (especially when frozen).

• The temperature of the frying oil may not be high

enough: the thermostat is set incorrectly.

• Set the thermostat to the recommended temperature.

• The oil is still too hot.

• Wait for the temperature to go down (approximately 2 hours).

• The fryer is not properly positioned on the

container.

• Position the fryer correctly.

• The filter grid is blocked or clogged.

• Empty the fryer into a container using the pouring spout and

clean the filter grid with warm water, washing-up liquid and a
non-metallic brush. Press on the red button under the fryer to
let out water and debris.

• The bowl is leaking.

• If it is only some drops on the electrical base, go to the page

23. For a bigger leak, contact an Approved Service Centre.

• The timer does not work (depending on model):

the battery is spent.

• Contact an Approved Service Centre.

• The temperature light does not come on.

• Contact an Approved Service Centre.

Any repairs must be carried out only by an Approved Service Centre using original spare parts.
