SENSOMAT
®
- ALFA
The SENSOMAT
®
ALFA Box is the electronic part of the ALFA torch with integrated
height sensing. This box is mounted at the top of the torch carriage and contains the
sensor electronics and the motor control for the height adjustment with the control
electronics.
WARNING!
The SENSOMAT
®
ALFA does not operate on a capacitive basis and
reacts only to ferromagnetic material. Touching the torch with the hand causes no reaction
from the height sensing. When the torch is moving there is a
danger of injury
by
clamping.
Never touch a moving torch with your hand

1. Adjustment procedure: Move the torch carriage to be adjusted to the working height
required with the UP / DOWN control buttons on the control panel and set the height by
pressing the blue SET button
←
on the SENSOMAT
®
ALFA Box. It is also possible to set
the height in the same way using the SET button integrated into the control panel. The
SET button in the SENSOMAT
®
ALFA Box only sets the corresponding torch carriage, the
SET button in the control panel sets all currently selected carriages to their current height.
Only carriages which are in their end positions will not be set. The height transferred
remains stored until a new height is set, even after the machine has been switched off and
switched on again. During adjustment the display of the SENSOMAT
®
ALFA Box shows
.
2. Correction of the sensing height in automatic operation. A fine correction of the current
sensing height can be made during automatic operation (Manual and Cutting) using the
two yellow buttons UP
↑
and DOWN
→
. The sensing height can be changed with the UP
↑
or DOWN
→
button. The modified sensing height is retained and will be used when
automatic is next selected.
3. Remote adjustment. To change the sensing height during automatic operation from the
control panel, press and hold the control panel SET button, and then move the carriage to
be corrected with its UP/DOWN toggle switches to the new working height required. The
modified height is also saved here.
4. Adjusting the amplification. The amplification of the sensor signal can be adjusted to
suit the control circuit.
There are two ways of doing this:
4.1 Adjustment with the height control fully raised (conditional query of the upper limit
switch on the carriage): Automatic operation may not be selected. Under these conditions
the display changes to show the amplification factor after the blue SET button
←
has been
pressed and held. The factory setting is 10. This factor can now be changed with the
yellow UP
↑
and DOWN
→
buttons. The larger the factor, the smaller the amplification will
be.
The factor 004 is the largest amplification, 50 is the lowest amplification. Amplification
factors under 004 and over 50 cannot be selected. The new value for the amplification will
be taken over after the blue SET button
←
is released.
4.2 Adjustment of the amplification during automatic operation: If the control loop is
closed and the sensing is active then the height control will be frozen on pressing the blue
SET button
←
and the current amplification factor appears in the display. The factory
setting is 10. The factor can now be changed with the yellow buttons UP
↑
and DOWN
→
.
The larger the factor, the smaller the amplification will be.
The factor 004 is the largest amplification, 50 is the lowest amplification. Amplification
factors under 004 and over 50 cannot be selected. The new value for the amplification will
be taken over after the blue SET button
←
is released. The height control is now active
again using the new amplification factor.

WARNING! For safety reasons amplifier adjustment can only be made in automatic mode
if the cutting torch is unlit and no coordinate motion is taking place.
5. Display: The left figure can be 0 or 1. 0 means automatic off. 1 means automatic on.
The right figure be 0 and 1, alternating from carriage to carriage. This pre-selection is used
for the synchronisation of the SENSOMAT
®
ALFA boxes on the machine and is set in the
factory during commissioning.
The bar display in the middle of the display is used for orientation. Bar in the centre:
selected height reached. Bar above centre: Height sensing travels up. Bar below centre:
Height sensing travels down.
6.Collision: If the torch touches the work-piece a collision is recognised and the height
sensing travels upwards (Option).
