•  Do

NOT

power any Portable Single Dimmers from a dimmed circuit.

Load

All Portable Single Dimmers can control incandescent and inductive loads including lamps and magnetic transformers in the dim mode.

The dimmers are leading-edge (forward-phasing) and as such it is

NOT

recommended that are used for speed control of fans or other

motors.  Be sure to include transformers in load calculations.

NOTE:

•  Care must be taken to assure that non-dimmable loads are only operated in the relay mode.

•  The circuit breaker should be switched off before connecting the load.

•  Set the control output to zero or a pre-heat level before energizing the load.

•  Plug load(s), up to the capacity of the dimmer, into the power output receptacle using properly grounded and appropriately rated

cables.

Connecting Control Wiring

•  For control using DMX512-A data protocol, plug control cables constructed for this use into the 5-pin XLR connectors (see Fig. 2)

labelled “DMX IN” and “DMX OUT” (if cable run continues beyond this unit)

•  DMX512-A rules require the use of a plug-in terminator on the last unit in a DMX daisy chain. The termination plug should be

plugged into the “DMX OUT” receptacle.

NOTE:

•  FD3 units are not self-terminating.

Set-Up and Operation

•  Manual Control:

A rotary dial allows the dimmer output to be set from 0% to 100% (0 - 10) at the unit. The dimmer’s output will

be a square-law dimming curve proportional to the rotary dial setting at any moment.

PLEASE NOTE

: If the rotary dial is at any level greater than 0% (0) it will override any DMX level.

•  Remote Control:

The DMX function allows the unit to be operated remotely using the DMX512-A data protocol over a wired or

wireless system.

•  Setting the Start Address:

•  Using (+) and (-) push buttons at the DMX ADDRESS panel, the starting address may be set between 001 and 512.

•  The address will be displayed and held until changed.

•  Wired Remote Control:

•  Set CRMX WIRELESS switch to ‘DMX ONLY’.

•  Plug control cables constructed for this use into the 5-pin XLR connectors labelled “DMX IN” and “DMX OUT”.

•  DMX512-A rules require the use of a plug-in terminator on the last unit in a DMX daisy chain. The termination plug should be

plugged into the “DMX OUT” receptacle.

•  A single green LED labelled ‘DMX’ will indicate the presence of a DMX signal

•  NOTE:

 FD3 units are

NOT

 self-terminating.

•  Wireless Remote Control:

•  Connect antenna to the 5dbi receptacle on control panel face.

•  Set CRMX WIRELESS switch to ‘ENABLE’.

•  Press the ‘HOLD TO UPLINK’ button and the dimmer will auto-connect to the CRMX/WDMX system.

•  To UNLINK dimmer, press ‘HOLD TO UPLINK’ button for three seconds.

•  NOTE:

•  Dimmer must be unlinked before linking with new transmitter.

•  A four-step LED indicator labelled ‘WIRELESS SIGNAL’ will indicate signal strength.

•  Status Quo:

•  Upon DMX-512A signal loss the dimmer will hold the last level received for up to 30 minutes.

•  Set the ‘STATUS QUO’ button to ‘ON’.

•  Restoration of DMX512-A signal or raising the rotary dial above the ‘0’ level will place the dimmer back into normal operation.

•  Lamp Warmer:

•  Dimmer output is set to 5% of line voltage even when the slider is set to ‘0’ or the DMX512-A signal is set to zero.

•  Set the ‘LAMP WARMER’ button to ‘ON’

•  This function is deactivated when the dimmer is set to NON-DIM.

•  Dim/Non-Dim:

•  The dimmer will function as a switch on or off.

•  Set the ‘NON DIM/DIM’ switch to ‘NON DIM’

•  The relay function may be controlled locally by the fader or remotely via DMX512-A.

•  To switch the relay locally, rotate the rotary dial the ‘-5’ designation to close the circuit.

•  To switch the relay via DMX, raise the level past 50% to close the circuit.

Portable Single Dimmers

NOTE:

The control panel will be operational once main power is present to the dimmer, regardless of the position of the main circuit

breaker. This feature enables operators to set appropriate control output parameters prior to energizing the dimmed load.

Maintenance

The Lex Products Portable Single Dimmers are designed to be low maintenance. However, several precautionary steps will prolong the

life of the electronic components.

•  Whenever possible, limit the unit’s exposure to high ambient temperatures.

•  Take care not to drop the device and always protect the controls and connectors from damage.

•  Do not allow liquid of any kind to enter the unit.

•  All screws and connections should be checked and tightened, if necessary on a regular basis, especially in rental and location

applications.

•  If the unit accumulates dust, disconnect it from power and clean using compressed air.

•  Always disconnect dimmer from power before performing any maintenance operation.

Troubleshooting
