INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE AND MAINTENANCE FOR THE RV74G

INSTALLATION TOOL

(Formerly the RV73G tool)

Description:

The Olympic Model RV74G is an electric installation tool recommended for the installation of
Olympic fasteners. It operates on 120VAC 60Hz. Pulling heads corresponding in size with the
diameter of fasteners to be installed must be attached to the RV74G tool.  Heavy-duty snap-on
series pulling heads are available and capable of installing 1/8” to 9/32” Bulbtite Olympic
Fasteners.   Other pulling heads may be used in combination with the correct adapter.

Operation:

Attach the snap-on series pulling head to the installation tool in the following manner: actuate
the installation tool until the draw bolt is in the extreme forward position.  Thread the pulling
head draw bolt fully to the installation tool draw bolt (Assy. 8023).  Lift the spring band (3143).
Slide the pulling head housing into the tool nose sleeve. Release the spring band (3143). The tool
is now ready for operation.

Fasteners are installed with the Olympic RV74G installation tool by first placing the fasteners
into the holes of a prepared panel or sheet.  Then  apply the pulling head nose onto the fastener
stem sliding the pulling head to the flange of the fastener.  Then activate the tool by squeezing
the motor trigger.

Depending upon the application, the fastener may first be inserted by hand into the pulling head
nose where it may be held in place by the head mechanism.  Then the shank portion of the
fastener can be inserted into the prepared holes prior to activating the installation tool.

The pulling action is a continuously reciprocating one.  The pulling head jaws will grip the
fastener stem repeatedly as the installation tool moves the draw bolt back and forth.  In the
instance of long fasteners, the bolt may reciprocate several times before the fastener stem is
broken.

Maintenance:

The RV74G installation tool has been engineered to provide trouble free operation under normal
usage conditions.  No lubrication is necessary unless the tool has been disassembled.  Upon
reassembly, pack the RV74G tool with

Keystone Zeniplex 2 grease

The pulling head will require periodic cleaning.  A small rifle brush passed through the jaws will
maintain the efficiency of the tool.  Occasionally disassemble the entire pulling head and clean
thoroughly, paying special attention the jaws. Upon reassembly, lubricate the inside conical
surface of the collet sparingly with a light chassis lubricant. Refer to the applicable pulling head
drawings.

Caution:

DO NOT operate the tool on a current with voltage outside the specified limits.  To do so may
seriously damage the tool.

Extension Cord Selection:

If an extension cord is used, make sure the conductor size is large enough to prevent excessive
voltage drop that will cause loss of power and possible motor damage. Also if used outdoors, use
only extension cords approved for outdoor use.
