BEFORE USING YOUR GRIDDLE

•  Before using your griddle for the first time, remove all packing material and any stickers.
•  Wash all removable parts as instructed in the “Care and Cleaning” section of this manual.
•  Wipe cooking surface with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any dust.
•  Wipe dry with a soft cloth or paper towel.
•  Place on a flat, level, heat resistant surface, leaving enough space around all

sides of the griddle to allow heat to flow without damage to cabinets and walls.

•  Slide the drip tray into the griddle base.

CONDITIONING THE NON-STICK COOKING SURFACE

Conditioning the cooking surface will help prolong the life of the non-stick coating.

•  Wipe the cooking surface lightly with cooking oil; remove any excess with a dry

paper towel.

•  Plug the griddle into a power outlet and turn the power on.
•  Set the temperature control dial to ‘130°C’ (medium heat) and allow the griddle to

heat for 5 minutes.

•  When finished, set temperature control dial to ‘min’, switch the power off and

allow to cool.

•  Wipe with a soft cloth or paper towel.

USING THE CLICK AND LOCK REMOVABLE TEMPERATURE CONTROL PROBE

This griddle comes with a removable temperature control probe that securely locks into

place.

•  To attach the probe, hold down the release button, and move the lock lever into

the vertical, unlocked position.

•  Slide the temperature control probe into the probe receptacle on the griddle.
•  To lock the thermostat, slide the lock lever down to the horizontal position, until it

clicks securely into place.

•  To remove the probe, hold the release button, and slide the lock lever into the

vertical, unlocked position. The probe can now be removed from the griddle.

USING YOUR GRIDDLE

•  Place on a flat, level, heat resistant surface, leaving enough space around all

sides of the griddle to allow heat to flow without damage to cabinets and walls.

•  Ensure that the drip tray is in place.
•  Ensure the temperature control probe is in place as per the section “USING THE

CLICK AND LOCK REMOVABLE TEMPERATURE CONTROL PROBE”.

•  Plug the griddle into a power outlet and turn the power on.
•  Set the temperature control dial to the desired heat setting.

NOTE: The temperature is fully variable, but has heat setting indicators around
the dial from ‘min’ to ‘230°C’.

•  The temperature light will illuminate whilst the griddle is heating and cycle off

once the temperature has been reached, indicating the griddle is at temperature

and ready to use.

NOTE: The heating time will vary depending on the heat setting you have
selected. The higher the heat setting, the longer the heating time.

NOTE: The temperature light will cycle on and off during cooking as the
thermostat operates to maintain the set temperature.

•  Carefully place items to be cooked on the griddle cooking surface.
•  Allow food to cook, turning halfway through cooking time, if needed.

CAUTION: Do not leave appliance unattended during use.

•  When finished cooking, turn the temperature control dial counter clockwise to

‘min’ and switch the power off.

•  Remove food using a plastic spatula. Be sure to always use either silicone, plastic

or wooden utensils so as not to scratch the non-stick surface. Never use metal

tongs, forks or knives as these can damage the coating on the cooking surface.

•  Switch off the power and remove the plug from the wall power outlet.
•  Allow the griddle to cool completely.

CAUTION: Be sure liquid has cooled before removing drip tray.

•  Once cool, the drip tray may be removed and emptied and the griddle can be

cleaned (See ‘CARE & CLEANING’ section).

COOKING HINTS AND TIPS

•  Use tender cuts of meat.
•  Marinate tougher cuts of meat to tenderise them before cooking.
•  To avoid drying out meat and fish, do not pierce with a utensil.
•  Better cooking results may be achieved with boneless cuts of meat, chicken and

fish.

•  Cut edges of meat in several places to prevent curling.

background image

7

•  When cooking fish or chicken breast fillets, tuck extremely thin parts under to

prevent overcooking.

•  If cooking more than one item, try to select foods of even thickness to promote

uniform cooking.

•  When cooking small portions, make sure meat is centred on griddle. When

cooking larger portions, distribute evenly.

•  Some foods such as eggs and pancakes cook better if the non-stick surface is

conditioned with cooking oils before preheating. If necessary, remove excess oil

with a paper towel.

•  Adjust heat setting gradually and only as necessary. Cooking foods at too high a

temperature can cause them to burn on the outside without cooking through the

middle.

CARE AND CLEANING

Warning: To avoid electric shock, unplug from outlet when not in use and before
cleaning. DO NOT IMMERSE TEMPERATURE CONTROL PROBE, CORD OR PLUG
IN WATER OR OTHER LIQUID.

CAUTION: To avoid accidental burns, allow griddle to cool thoroughly before
cleaning.

•  Before cleaning, turn the temperature control dial counter clockwise to ‘min’ and

unplug from the wall outlet.

•  Remove temperature control probe, wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
•  Use a plastic or silicone spatula to assist with removal of any excess fat and food

particles.

•  Empty the drip tray.
•  Wash griddle and drip tray in warm soapy water; rinse and dry thoroughly. The

drip tray may be washed in the dishwasher, top-rack only. Do not wash griddle in

the dishwasher.

CAUTION: Do not immerse the griddle in water unless the probe has been
removed. The temperature control probe and probe receptacle must always be
completely dry before use.

•  Stubborn build-up: If necessary, use a non-metallic scrubbing pad to clean the

griddle.

Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or abrasive cleaners on any part of the appliance.

STORAGE

•  Unplug unit, allow to cool and clean before storing.
•  Store in a clean, dry place. Never store griddle while it is hot or still plugged in.
•  Never wrap cord tightly around the appliance as this could cause the cord to fray

and break.

POWerBUrger

A delicious hamburger that we think tastes even better than its all-meat cousin! To reduce

saturated fat in a typical burger, you can cut back on the amount of meat and make up

for it with healthy ingredients such as wholemeal bread crumbs, chopped vegetables,

cooked rice, other grains or cereals.
If you wish to add cheese to your burger, Swiss cheese is lower in fat than Cheddar.

Another healthy alternative if you like condiments with your burger, mustard contains far

less fat than mayonnaise and far less sugar than barbecue sauce.
Top your Powerburger with fresh slices of tomato, dark, leafy green lettuce such as

spinach and finish with fresh parsley and basil leaves.

Ingredients:

¼ cup finely chopped vegetables (eg. spring onions, zucchini, red or green capsicum)
¼ cup grated carrot
¼ cup wholemeal breadcrumbs
1 egg
2 tbs parsley
2 sprigs of thyme, leaves only
750g lean minced beef (5-star)
1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp ground black pepper

Method:

1

.  In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well, using hands.

2

.  Shape the mixture into eight patties, place on a plate and refrigerate for 10

minutes.

3

.  Meanwhile, preheat your George Foreman® Sear & Sizzle Griddle. Arrange

patties on griddle and cook for 4-6 minutes, until juices run clear.

4

.  Serve on wholemeal hamburger buns with spinach, fresh tomato, low fat cheese,

fresh herbs and mustard.

Makes 8-10 burger patties.
