COLLABORATE ROOM PRO AND
THE BEAMFORMING MICROPHONE ARRAY
The Beamforming Microphone Array is a 24 microphone device with
beamforming and adaptive steering technology that provides high-
quality audio to a COLLABORATE Room Pro.
The Beamforming Microphone Array connects through an Expansion
Bus (E-bus) port to the USB adapter, which in turn connects to
the COLLABORATE Room Pro through a standard USB port. The
Beamforming Microphone Array is identified as an audio input to the
COLLABORATE Room Pro. The power for the Beamforming Microphone
Array is supplied through a Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) connection.
The Beamforming Microphone Array is supported for use as a ceiling-
mounted, wall-mounted or tabletop assembly.
The latest version of the COLLABORATE Pro firmware and the
COLLABORATE Room Pro Installation and Setup Guide can be found on

Make the Beamforming Microphone Array power connection on the
underside of the array in the labeled
PoE
connector from the provided
PoE power supply or a standard Power-over-Ethernet switch.
NOTE:
The PoE connection is only for power; audio signals are sent
to the USB adapter via the E-bus Link OUT connection. The Link IN
and the Device ID selector rotary switch are not used.

There are three audio output options, accessed from the back of the
COLLABORATE Room Pro, for connecting the audio.
1. Balanced Audio output to an amplifier that is connected to speakers
2. Line output to powered speakers
3. HDMI output to the monitor receiving the signal

MOUNTING THE BEAMFORMING MICROPHONE
ARRAY
The array can be ceiling-mounted in either a suspended or solid ceiling,
or on a wall-mount assembly with the PoE and E-bus wiring passing
through the mounting assembly and plugging into the Beamforming
Microphone Array unit. Tabletop use is also supported with PoE and
E-bus cables attached under the unit. Detailed instructions are included
in the Beamforming Microphone Array Installation Guide available on the
ClearOne website:

AUDIO OPTIMIZATION AND CONTROL
The audio of the COLLABORATE Room Pro system must be optimized
for the outputs used and the room in which it is used.
NOTE:
For best audio performance, ClearOne recommends using
Balanced Audio or Line output to a mixer or amplifier. HDMI audio to
a monitor is also supported, but monitor speakers are usually lower
quality.
Complete instructions for the installation, setup, controls, and operation
of the COLLABORATE Room Pro are available on the ClearOne website

Make sure the Beamforming Microphone Array is mounted and
connected to a fully connected COLLABORATE Room Pro.
Connect to either a set of amplified speakers or a mixer using the Line
output or Balanced audio connections. Set the COLLABORATE Room
Pro Volume to 50%. Play the sample audio by pressing the
Play
button.
Use the external amplifier or mixer to adjust the volume within the room
to a comfortable level. Afterward, the COLLABORATE Room Pro audio
control can be used to increase/decrease the audio to a desired level
during sessions.

Using the COLLABORATE Room Pro and Beamforming Microphone
Array with the HDMI output to monitor speakers requires adjustment for
audio levels and echo cancellation.
Volume
After attaching the HDMI output to the monitor, set the COLLABORATE
Room Pro Volume to 50%, then play the sample audio by pressing the
Play
button. Use the monitor audio adjustment to set the volume within
the room to a comfortable level. Afterward, the COLLABORATE Room
Pro audio control can be used to increase/decrease the audio to a
desired level during sessions.
Delay
The HDMI connection must have a signal delay setting to allow the echo
cancellation to operate effectively. Initially, set the
Audio Delay
in the
COLLABORATE Room Pro
Settings>Audio>Digital Dispay Audio
Delay
control to 50 msec. (Range is 0 to 120 msec.) Then, while making
a call, adjust delay up or down in 10 msec increments until the audio
echo is no longer heard.
