SIP IP Phone Models 9143i, 9480i, 9480i CT and 5i Series Phones Release Note 2.3.1

Before you Upgrade

Please Read Before Upgrading the Phones to Release 2.3

Release 2.3 provides several new features for the Aastra IP Phones. However, before upgrading
the phones in your network to Release 2.3, please read the following IMPORTANT information:

In Release 2.3, LLDP is enabled by default.

If LLDP is enabled on your network, the phones may come up with different network settings.
For more information about LLDP, see your Model-Specific User Guide or the

Aastra SIP IP

Phone Administrator Guide

.

Release 2.3 includes support for DHCP Options 159 and 160.

If the DHCP server supplies Options 159 and 160, the phones will attempt to contact the
configuration server given in these options. For more information about the DHCP Options,
see your

Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide

.

Release 2.3 provides HTTPS validation.

If you are using HTTPS and the certificates are not valid or are not signed by Verisign,
Thawte, or GeoTrust, the phones fail to download configuration files. For more information
about HTTPS validation, see your

Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide

.

Release 2.3 includes a Watchdog task feature.

If the phone detects a failure (for example, a crash), the phone automatically reboots. For more
information about the Watchdog task, see your

Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide

..

Note:

If you factory default a phone with Release 2.3 software, when the

phone reboots, it attempts to connect to

 rcs.aastra.com

. There is no

personal information transmitted from the phone and the phone continues
to boot up as normal.

IP Phone Release Notes 2.3.1

New Features in Release 2.3.1

Description

This section provides the new features in SIP IP Phone Release 2.3.1. These new features apply
to all of the 5i Series phones and the 9143i, 9480i, and 9480i CT phones, unless specifically
stated otherwise. Each feature also specifies whether it affects the Administrator, the User, or
both.

The following paragraphs describe these features in more detail.

WebApps Feature

The WebApps option displays by default in the Services Menu of the 51i, 53i and 9143i. On all
other phones models, the WebApps key displays by default on Key 1 of the softkeys. This
WebApps key is hard coded to use the URI http://xml.myaastra.com/?localip=$LOCALIP$
when the key is pressed.

Now an Administrator can perform the following:

Remove the WebApps option from the 51i, 53i, and 9143i Service Menus, and disable the
WebApps key for all other phone models.

Specify a customized URI for the WebApps key instead of using the default URI of
http://xml.myaastra.com/?localip=$LOCALIP$.

IP Phone Release Notes 2.3.1

Local Conferencing Added on the 51i IP Phone

Previous to Release 2.3.1, the 51i IP Phone supported server-side conferencing only. The 51i
now supports local 3-way conferencing as described below.

Conference State Screens

When you use the Conference key (DOWN Arrow) to initiate a conference call, the following
screen displays.

In a conference call, the call timer moves to the left. You use the up and down arrow keys to
scroll to a party on the list. You use the right arrow key to select the party to drop.

Local Conferencing

The 51i phone supports up to 3 parties (including yourself) in a conference call. This is called
Local Conferencing and is the default method of conferencing on the 51i.

Using Local Conferencing

Use the following procedure to create a conference call using local conferencing. Use the
following illustration as a reference.

1.

When you begin a conference, you are the first party in the conference (Party 1). Pickup the
handset or press the speakerphone key.

Note:

If an Administrator enables Secure Real-time Transfer Protocol

(SRTP) (which is RTP encryption) on the 51i, it disables the ability of the
phone to do local conferencing. The phone switches back to support
server-side conferencing only.

a REGISTER.  The object specifies a single message that the phone displays on the status line on
the LCD for a specific line.  If the object is missing, the phone removes the status message that
was previously sent.
