INSTALLATION GUIDE

Components

Cassette consisting of ‘Hood’, Base, 2 sides and internal brackets.

Fabric. GL 1000 Super gloss PVC. Standard colour ‘Sand’. Translucent.

Bottom Rail with colour toned handle, (connects to inner Tube ‘8) includes end plugs.

Spring Tensioning Tool –
CAUTION
– spring under tension, read all instructions
prior to re-installing fabric.

Cassette fixtures. 6mm drill bit required.

Tubing fixtures – U bracket (zinc plated) – 6mm drill bit required.

Outer Tubes - Zinc coated steel with plugged end.

Inner Tube – 20x20 3mm Aluminium.

Inner tube fixtures – Bolt, nut and end cap cover. 8mm drill bit required to drill hole
in Bottom Rail ‘3’ once correct spacing is established.

Inner tube holding pins. Pre drilled holes 1800mm from Bottom Rail.
Use pins if necessary to hold the 4B Shade out on mildly windy days.

CASSETTE INSTALLATION

Disassemble cassette by first removing the 2 micro screws then ‘Carefully’ lifting each end of the Cassette
front section. (A)
NOTE
: The Cassette front section is held by 2 internal plastic lugs which can
break
if too much force is
used. Push down gently as you lift each side upwards.

Carefully remove the fabric by lifting the pin on the LHS using the ‘Tensioning Tool’ (A).
Store the fabric ready for re-installation later.
Mounting Cassette to the Roof Bars or direct onto Outer Tubes.

Mounting on Roof Bars
- Remove roof bar and centre the Cassette base onto the rear roof bar.
Mounting on Outer Tube
– position outer tubes onto roof bars / rack first – see below and page 3.
HINT – Position the rear roof bar as far to the back of the vehicle as possible for easier operation.
Hint – Remove part of the rubber from the roof bar for a better fit.

Drill 3 holes (6mm bit) spaced equally apart through the Cassette back and the roof bar.
•
Secure using the M5 20mm bolts, washers and locking nuts provided.
•
Position Roof Bar back onto rear of the vehicle.
POSITIONING OUTER TUBE BARS
NOTE
– Outer Tube bars must be ‘Exact’ distance apart front and back! (See page 3)

Protect roof with appropriate fabric covers to avoid scratches and other damage.

Position each Outer Tube with the end lip in line with the back of the Cassette back.

Position bars approx 850mm apart. NOTE – must be equally spaced and centred.

Position the Support U Brackets (B)

Hint – REMEMBER – the bars must be ‘Exact’ distance apart front and back! CROSS CHECK.

Secure the Support brackets to the underside of the roof bars - (6mm Drill Bit) using the M5 20mm
bolts, washers and locking nuts provided.

Insert the Inner Tube bars with the pre drilled hole facing upwards - check they slide freely.

OH&S – The following step requires tensioning the fabric spring and can cause injury.
The Winding Tool may dislodge from the spring.
Safety Glasses must be worn and keep area clear of other persons.

Carefully reinstall the fabric tube placing the RHS pin into the end bracket.

Pull out the 1
st
Spring section to reveal the ‘Booster Spring
(FIG. D)
Turn the Booster Spring CLOCKWISE 12 turns then reinstall Booster Spring back into tube.

Now using the Tensioning Tool Provided – wind up the Tongue of the spring 12 turns CLOCKWISE,
then place into the Spring Bracket.
(FIG.E, F & G) NOTE – Spring must remain on the Left Hand Side.
NOTE – The spring may partly slide out of the tube when winding up – push the spring back into the tube
each turn if necessary.

Reinstall the cassette Hood – Lifting at an angle – slotting in the rear lip into the base channel.
NOTE
- A gentle tap each end will assist in locking down the hood!
Reinstall the micro screws each side to secure the hood.

Position the Fabric Bottom Bar in line with the pre-drilled hole of the Inner Tube Bars.
Mark and drill through the Fabric Bottom Bar using a 8.5mm bit.
HINT
– Drill close to the outer edge as possible note measure (Fig 1).
End cap will be fitted

NOTE – Drill hole at the front of the bar – away from the fabric.

Position the nut inside the Inner Tube in line with the hole ready to receive the bolt. (FIG. J)

Place cap over pre drilled hole in Inner Tube, facing upwards. (FIG K)

Place the bolt downward through the hole picking up the nut positioned in the Inner Tube Bar. (FIG. L)

INITIAL OPERATION / TESTING YOUR NEW 4B SHADE
Gripping the handle – pull the 4B Shade outwards keeping the both bars level and even.
One Long Motion
4B Shade extends 1.8 Mtrs comfortably and can be secured (if required) at this extension using 2 pins
In the pre-drilled holes.
RETRACTING – Gently lift the handle while gently pushing the 4B Shade back into the cassette.
The 4B Shade should be used foremost as a ‘Shade’ and for light rain protection.
BEST SHADE OPERATION –
Drive towards the Sun –
STOP – Pull out the 4B Shade – Perfect Shade!
NOTE
-
There should be a degree of resistance when first operating the 4B Shade.
This will reduce the more the 4B Shade is put to use.
Metal shavings from the end of the Outer Tube bars are normal and will decrease in time.
We do recommend you wipe the area clean after each initial use.
Pulling the bar in and out ‘MUST’ be done with equal tension on both bars.
PULL out evenly from the centre with
One Long Motion.
Regularly check all nuts and bolts are tensioned and always prior to Outback travelling.

MAINTENANCE
* Clean fabric with a mild detergent. An external garden furniture cleaner
can be used for stubborn stains.
• Use a silicone spray on inner tube bars (8)
• Clean car roof of wear shavings after use.
• Always check fixtures are tight on a regular basis.
• Check bar and fabric alignment if the 4B Shade is hard to pull
out or does not retract smoothly.
